COBRA CANOA Framework for investing into IPLC
The world needs a fresh approach to environmental preservation and community development. Indigenous Peoples are the true custodians of biodiversity, and together, we can create a global ecosystem that unleashes their leadership alongside local communities. Forget the traditional one-size-fits-all solutions — it is time for a radical collaboration with a distributed community of practice.
What is the current state of direct investments for Indigenous communities? In the beginning of this year we started an Action Research Project finding out how to improve efficiency of financial investments for Indigenous communities. Find more about this project and help us do develop the framework further.
Let us listen to what Indigenous leaders have to tell about direct investments.
The Cobra Canoa Framework is a bold, innovative approach to systemic investments, aimed at supporting Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in regenerating ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, and fostering sustainable development. The framework provides a holistic and decentralized financial model that empowers communities, promotes environmental stewardship, and aligns global resources with local, regenerative initiatives. At its core, the Cobra Canoa Framework is built around three interconnected pillars: the 5 Shared Principles, Bioregional Funds, and a Planetary Well-Being Task Force.
It IS Time to act now. Consciously and Firmly.
Principals and strategic goals for Planetary Well-being and Bioregional Restorations. Let us break it down.
Nourishing Life: We engage Indigenous knowledge systems to maintain ecosystem balance, promoting aligned actions that regenerate rather than deplete nature.
Local Autonomy: Empowering communities to take control of their own destinies, this principle ensures that local initiatives are tailored to the specific needs and realities of each region.
Regenerative Systems: This principle champions the creation of thriving economies, cultures, and territories without harming the environment. It promotes circular economies that give back to nature, while supporting cultural resilience.
Community of Practice: By empowering communities to sustainably manage resources, this principle fosters collaboration, peer learning, and knowledge exchange to ensure long-term sustainability.
Aligning Consciousness: We identify conscious leaders and allies—both indigenous and non-indigenous—who are committed to the regeneration of life, and collaborate with them to expand the reach and impact of these efforts.
Creating a Planetary Well-being Task Force and building Bioregional Hubs
Bioregional Funds
Bioregional Funds are the financial engines driving local regenerative initiatives. They are decentralized, community-led funds that support Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in implementing sustainable projects, restoring ecosystems, and building resilient local economies. Each bioregional fund operates autonomously, ensuring that financial resources flow directly to those who are best positioned to protect and regenerate their territories. This structure minimizes bureaucratic delays, reduces the risk of corruption, and ensures that investments are in direct alignment with the needs and priorities of each region.
Planetary Well-Being Task Force
The Planetary Well-Being Task Force is a global network of Indigenous leaders, environmental experts, and strategic allies committed to driving systemic change. This task force acts as a bridge between local communities and global stakeholders, advocating for policies and investment strategies that prioritize planetary health and social equity. It ensures that the Cobra Canoa Framework remains adaptable and scalable, while guiding the global ecosystem towards regenerative practices that foster the well-being of both people and the planet.
By combining these three pillars—ethical principles, decentralized financial support, and global advocacy—the Cobra Canoa Framework aims to create a new paradigm for investments, one that restores ecosystems, respects Indigenous leadership, and promotes lasting, equitable development.
